City rethinks stance on emails
"I'm all for open government and transparency," Salas told me, echoing the sentiments of every other council member, with the exception of Ken Weir who did not respond to phone calls nor emails. Although the 2010 U.S. census reveals that Bakersfield's population is 45 percent Latino, it appears no person of Latino descent had ever been elected to the City Council in Bakersfield's more than 100-year history until Rudy Salas Jr. won the Ward 1 seat last November.

PG&E acknowledges SmartMeter defect

17 Investigation: Man says neighbor illegally dumping paint (Chan.17 KGET)
We also called the Bakersfield City Fire Department multiple times, but were told no one was coming out. So 17 News contacted City Councilman Rudy Salas in whose district the paint was dumped. "When someone is telling you they aren't going to come out and they're not going to deal with the situation, that's unacceptable," said Salas.
Salas called City Manager Alan Tandy and minutes later the fire department showed up  with their Hazmat crews to determine if this spill is hazardous.
